53rd Constitutional Convention of the BC Building Trades
Victoria, March 1-4, 2026
The BCBT Annual Convention is a dynamic gathering of delegates from BCBT affiliate unions across British Columbia. The convention serves to elect leadership and set policy priorities, but it is also a crucial touchpoint for leaders of B.C.’s unionized construction sector. The convention is an opportunity to connect, galvanize our movement and build power. The theme this year is “People & Projects: Fueling Our Economy”.

Labour Day – Origins
Labour Day originally grew out of an 1872 printers’ strike in Toronto, fighting for a nine-hour work day. The printers won their battle, a major milestone in the changing relations between Canadian workers and their government.
Just over 20 years later, on July 23, 1894, the government of then-Prime Minister John Thompson passed a law making Labour Day official. In Canada, Labour Day is still a statutory holiday observed each year on the first Monday in September.
In the early days, Labour Day was celebrated with parades and other festivities. While celebrations are now more low-key, Labour Day is still observed across Canada and is viewed as the unofficial end of summer.
National Day for Truth & Reconciliation
Our office will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 30 to observe Canada’s first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Our members are strongly encouraged to learn about the horrific legacy of residential schools in British Columbia and Canada, and to be closed on Thursday, Sept. 30 to observe Canada’s first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
